Our entryway mats use a shorter chenille pile with striped grooves that scrape grit, mud, water, and snow off the sole of a shoe. The pile is dense but low enough that a door clears it, and the rubber backing stays put on tile, wood, or concrete. These are the first thing you step on coming inside. A 20 by 32 inch mat fits a single door. The 35 by 59 inch size covers a wider entry or a mudroom floor. The striped grooves do the cleaning, so choose a color that hides what comes off your shoes. Gray, black and beige are the practical picks for wet or snowy seasons.
